Keeping Up Appearances

Last night I hosted book club at my house. It was delightful, in case you're wondering. About an hour before it started, Nils helped me do some last minute tidying so that my guests would think that our house is cleaner than it actually is. He got the kids to help clean by bribing them with Oreos. In order to keep the house clean, they were required to eat their Oreos in the bathtub. So they did.

And that is how we keep up appearances.

Ha ha ha! That is soooo funny! And brilliant :) Too bad I couldn't join - I have a lot of mixed feelings about that book and it would have been fun to talk about it!

That is a great idea! Every few days I have people come over to preview their pictures. I insist that the front room/office and what can be seen of the kitchen is clean. Yesterday I was telling the kids that they couldn't go into the front room (although, that is where the stairs to go up to their rooms are). Next time, I will just give them a bag of Oreos and hide them in the bathroom! :)

Isn't it funny how we all do that? I always have dishes in the sink and when someone gives me a few minutes notice I shove them in the oven. It's nice to get the bathtub idea...more dishes would fit in there. Plus they could soak while hiding!

Your house was sparkling clean! It's always that way and I know you just made up this post so the rest of us won't think we're the only ones that do this.

I love having people over for the reason that my house is so spotless for about 12 hours. And 8 of those hours are when the kids are asleep in bed.
